Springing Into Summer
Today, it was 88 degrees here in my part of southern Colorado. Tomorrow, they're forecasting snow.
It's the way of our weather here at 6500 feet. We have to be prepared for anything, any time of the year. Oh, and for our baked goods to sink in the middle. (I'm working on that part...but that's a post for another day.)
Snow in Spring
Happy March! Here in Colorado, we mix our blossoms with blizzards, and this March is no exception. March is also my birth month, and I am notorious for celebrating all month long. In southern Illinois, where I grew up, spring is usually fully in bloom by my birthday in…
The Great Fiction Bake-Off: A Love Story
Summer is nearly over here in Colorado, and we've soaked up every drop at our house. Between family time and traveling for most of the last month, we've done and seen a lot. But it's nice to be home, and I'm looking forward to fall and getting back into a scheduled routine.
Because we were gone for so long, I'm still working on wrapping up my fictional take on the Great British Baking Show/Bake-Off.
Simple Summer Joys
Are you savoring these early days of summer? School's out for my kiddos here in Colorado and they are living their best lives every day with watermelon, popsicles, and bike rides with the neighborhood kids. I love watching them enjoy each day. If only we could all be as carefree and full of joy.
What's Your Favorite Fall Escape?
Have you been wondering where I am? I don't blame you. It's been a few months.
Last time, I shared that a bad situation led me to abruptly quit my well-loved job of seven years, and that the sudden, brutal shift had left me feeling raw and a bit adrift. To be honest, I thought I'd be "over it" by now. But I'm learning that healing often comes in its own time.
The Prettiest Poppies: On Gardening and Personal Growth
Confession: I am terrible with plants.
Actually, hold on...
Make that, I was terrible with plants.
Because I'm focusing on growth over here.
At Home in the Path of Totality
I was hoping to share a link to my redesigned website today, but alas! It's still not done. The reason for this is a good one, however: I took my little girl on an extended trip to my hometown in southern Illinois to view the full solar eclipse. My parents' house was right in its path, and my girl really wanted to see it.
Bleak Midwinter? Early Spring?
As usual, in Colorado, we've got a mix of both...
How's the weather in your corner of the world? Are you struggling through the winter blues? Enjoying the blossoms of an early spring? Maybe you're on the other side of the world, savoring the golden rays of a late summer sun. My mom sent me a photo of three overstuffed vases of daffodils this week.
Did Someone Say Free Books?
You may have heard of the wildly popular Romance Bookworms promotion that takes place every quarter. The one in June was so popular it actually brought in too much traffic to Amazon's site and caused problems for a while! I'm privileged to be part of the hundreds of authors sharing free-for-a-limited-time romance ebooks, all of which are being features on Romance Bookworms for the first time.
Getting Cozy with a Great Read
I know, I'm rushing the whole "let's hunker down in our sweaters and read by the fireplace" vibe a bit. Last week it was in the nineties here in my neck of Colorado. This week, though, it's in the low eighties - it feels glorious, by comparison. The truth is, I love autumn so much I break out the hot cocoa and comfy blankets when I catch the first whiff of the season on the breeze.
Basking in the Aloha
Aloha from the island of O'ahu! My husband has been working in Japan for the past month and on his way home, he had the brilliant idea for us to meet in Hawai'i for a few days. We are on our last day and I am full of peace at how restorative the beauty us has been. What a true privilege it has been to spend time here.
A Makeover for Love on Film
I'm super excited about the new cover design for Love on Film. The first one (which I loved) didn't quite fit the series as a whole as well as I want, so I decided it was time for a change. This new one features a standalone Marin, just like Love on Hold and Love on Paper. It also has a darker tone to match the heavier topics in this book, and the lighthouse on the right becomes a stalwart ally during a rough time.
